Had a change of plans while I’ll be hitting the Parkways event later right now I’m over at the street fair doing free repairs! Got the whole little portable mechanic setup going. If you’d like some free bike fixing come on down! There is also lots of other vendors and music and food….  good times! I’m Foster and the 205 bike path with the bike parking area. The main part of the Fair is at 92nd and Ramona.

East Sunday Parkways

filed under: news

This Sunday (July 18th) is the east side parkways tour, another installment this summer series. The streets will be shut down for a route made up of a 4.5-mile loop, connecting Ed Benedict (and the East Portland Exposition), Bloomington and Lents Parks. Food, music and activities are located in the parks and along the route. 10am-3pm, come on out to walk, ride, stroll, skate and schmooze. The weather report is looking good, so we hope to see you there.

Bicycles for Humanity

filed under: news

A while back you may have noticed that collection we participated in to send unwanted bikes to school children in South Africa. It didn’t go as quickly as hoped, but Jenny the organizer did daily collections for a week. The container was nearly full by the time it shipped out.
A dozen of the bikes came from our part of town through the neighborhood clean up event. If you dropped off a at bike at the cleanup you might be interested to know that didn’t go to a scrap yard…. it went to South Africa! Go here for pics of their arrival

Bike routes in the Foster area

filed under: news

New routes through the neighborhood are being implemented or at least planned for the near future.

East – West

Center Street. A lot of bike/ped improvements to this street have already happened. Many speed bumps, stop signs and sidewalk improvements have been installed. Good stuff.

North – South

52nd? 50th? This is just in the planning/committee stage. Going north or south in Portland by bike is pretty restricted in some areas. This route will be a welcome addition once completed. I have the privilege of being part of some of this planning and will update with info as I get it.

Sable is sick…

Sable (Simba ) has an infection in his mouth. One side of his face is swollen. Of course it’s July 4th so can’t take him to vet today. He’ll be going first thing in the morning. For those who know and love our 60th Avenue mascot I will update after he visits the vet.

UPDATE July 6th

He is ok! Like most older animals he has some pretty bad dental problems. They drained some of the infection and he is on antibiotics and pain meds. He is already looking and feeling much better.
In a couple weeks he will have to go back for a consultation with the pet dentist. Dental work isn’t cheap and we will probably need to “pass the hat” around for donations towards his health.
We will see how it goes.

If you want to come say hello he is sitting on the shop counter right now making it difficult for me to type by rubbing on my hands…
